Streetlife takes your privacy seriously and wants you to be familiar with how we collect, share and otherwise process your personal information.  This Notice describes our practices in connection with information that we collect through our CRM, wearestreetlife.org (the “Website“) and through the social media pages that we control (our Social Media Pages).   

This Notice explains how personal information relating to the following individuals may be processed byStreetlife: 

  • Young People – individuals aged between 16-25 who use our services; 
  • Other people who contact Streetlife – individuals who do not personally require our services (they are not Streetlife Young People), but are concerned about homelessness, friends/family who may be Young People or they are professionals working with Young People; 
  • Donorsindividuals who donate money to Streetlife, through one-off or regular donations, sponsorship or legacy pledges; and 
  • Volunteersunpaid individuals who work with Young People or Streetlife staff to support its charitable aims. 

By using Streetlife, the Website and Social Media Pages, you accept the terms of this Notice and the ways we may process your information.  If you have any queries about this Notice please contact us using the details below. 

What information do we collect? 

Information we collect from you 

When you interact with us through our services, the Website or our Social Media Pages, such as by filling in a webform, making a donation, contacting our helpline through the Website, we may collect your: 

  • name; 
  • address; 
  • email address; 
  • (mobile) telephone number; 
  • employer/company; 
  • bank account details;  
  • date of birth. 

If you are a Young Person we may also collect personal information such as information about your: 

  • current housing status; and 
  • housing history previous three addresses. 

We may also collect sensitive personal data such as information about your: 

  • racial or ethnic origin; 
  • religious or philosophical beliefs; 
  • physical or mental health; 
  • sexual life or sexual orientation; and 
  • actual or alleged criminal offences. 

If you are a Donor we may also collect personal information such as information about your: 

  • survey responses including demographic information; 
  • Gift Aid status; 
  • copies of your will and your solicitor‘s details if you are a legacy pledger; 
  • employer details and National Insurance number if you are a payroll donor; and 
  • agent/manager name if you are a celebrity supporter. 

We may also collect sensitive personal data such as information about your: 

  • racial or ethnic origin; 
  • religious or philosophical beliefs; 
  • physical or mental health; 
  • sexual life or sexual orientation; and 
  • actual or alleged criminal offences. 

If you are a Volunteer we may also collect personal information such as information about your: 

  • work history; 
  • education history; and 
  • hobbies. 

We may also collect sensitive personal data such as information about your: 

  • racial or ethnic origin; 
  • religious or philosophical beliefs; 
  • physical or mental health; 
  • sexual life or sexual orientation; and 
  • actual or alleged criminal offences. 

We will let you know before collecting whether it is compulsory to give us your personal information and the consequences of not providing the information. 

If you visit our Website or Social Media Pages, we may automatically record information including: 

  • which pages you visit; 
  • the amount of time you spend on the Website; 
  • whether you are a new visitor; 
  • how you came to our Website; and  
  • the type of device and browser you use.   

We may collect this sort of information by using cookies (see Cookies below). 

For Young People we may also receive information from Children’s Services or Social Services, from a local authority or other professionals such as health practitioners, teachers, employers etc.  

How do we use your information? 

Depending on the specific purpose, we may process your information on the following bases: 

  • with your consent; 
  • in order to enter into or perform a contract with you; 
  • to protect your vital interests;  
  • for our legitimate business interests; 
  • where necessary to perform a task in the public interest; or 
  • for compliance with our legal or social protection obligations.   

We may use your personal information for the following purposes:  

  • to provide you with Streetlife services or products you have requested; 
  • to respond to your enquiries; 
  • to personalise your experience of the Website and Social Media Pages; 
  • to further our charitable aims;  
  • for administration purposes;  
  • to send you fundraising communications that we believe may be of interest to you (where we have your consent to do so); 
  • as required by law; and  
  • to improve the quality of our services including the Website and Social Media Pages. 

If you are a Young Person, we may also use your personal information for the following purposes: 

  • to provide you with accommodation in one of our services; 
  • to facilitate further education or training; 
  • to carry out risk assessments and manage your activities/behaviour; 
  • to contact other professionals eg the housing office to secure your benefits; 
  • to contact emergency services if there is an immediate risk to life; and 
  • to use your case study in our campaign materials (only with your explicit consent).  

If you are a Donor, we may also use your personal information for the following purposes: 

  • to process your donations or sponsorship; 
  • to send you updates and newsletters; and 
  • we may also undertake profiling using your personal information.  This means we carry out analysis of your information, for example, by aggregating your information with other Donors’ information and that from other fundraising platforms, to understand where our Donors come from, what you do and what you care about.  This informs our marketing, helps us to effectively communicate with our Donors and fundraise.  You can object to such profiling (see What are my rights re my personal information? below). 

 If you are a Volunteer we may also use your personal information for the following purposes: 

  • to assess your suitability for the role applied for; 
  • to send you job alerts (where we have your consent to do so); 
  • to assess your job application and to monitor recruitment statistics; 
  • to contact you with queries; 
  • to invite you to additional training sessions or events; 
  • to match you with suitable Young People based on your background and life experience; 
  • to illustrate demographics of our volunteers; and to repay your expenses. 

We may also anonymise and aggregate personal information to improve our services or for research or to influence government policy.  You cannot be personally identified from such data. 

How do we share your information? 

We may need to share your information with the following parties for the following reasons: 

Service providers: in order to provide you with the services, products or information you requested eg web hosting providers to host our website, telephone system providers for our helpline, cloud storage providers, printers for our marketing materials, criminal records check providers, payment companies to process donations etc. 

Associated organisations: to further our charitable aims eg with other charities combatting homelessness 

Organisations who are supportive of our aims:  to further our charitable aims or for fundraising purposes.  We only share your information for these purposes when we have your permission to do so. You can change your mind at any time by [contacting us] using the details below. 

Agents: to improve the quality of our services eg analytics companies to measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns. 

Police or Social Services: we are under various legal obligations to share certain data for the prevention and detection of crime eg the sexual offenders register or to prevent benefit fraud. 

How do we protect your information? 

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to ensure that we (and our service providers on our behalf) keep your information secure, accurate and up to date However, unfortunately the transmission of information over the internet is never 100% secure, so providing information through our Website or Social Media Pages is at your own risk. 

Streetlife has additional security measures in place to protect the sensitive personal data it processes. 

How long do we hold your information? 

We will retain your personal information for the period necessary to fulfil the purposes in this Notice unless a longer retention period is permitted by law.  Different types of information are held for different periods of time in accordance with our retention policy.  For example complaints forms are held for seven years after the final communication whereas unsuccessful job applications are held for six months.  You can request deletion of your personal information at any time (see What are my rights re my personal information? below). 

Cookies 

In order to improve our Website we use ‘cookies’ and similar technologies.  Cookies are small pieces of information sent by us to your computer or mobile device and stored on your device to allow us to recognise you when you next visit.

What are my rights re my personal information? 

Access: you can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you .  

Correction: you can have any inaccuracies in your information corrected. 

Deletion: you can ask us to delete all your personal information in certain circumstances (eg if the information is no longer necessary). 

Objection/marketing: you can object to us processing your data in certain circumstances (eg to profiling).  If you wish to opt out of marketing emails please click the link at the bottom of each email or contact [email protected]. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (details below). 

Restriction: you can ask us to pause processing your information in certain circumstances (eg if you are disputing its accuracy). 

Portability: you can ask us to transfer your information electronically to another organisation in certain circumstances. 

All of these rights are free to exercise and we will aim to respond within one month, unless we need to extend the timeframe for certain reasons.  You can make any of the above requests by contacting Streetlife at the details below, although it will greatly assist us if you use this form [insert link].  We will assess your request and provide a full response in writing. 

Other information 

Transfers of your personal information: It is our intention to, at all times, store and process your personal information within the European Economic Area. Should this position ever change we would take steps to ensure that your personal information is only transferred once adequate safeguards are in place, such as Model Clauses, other adequacy mechanisms or derogations approved by the EU Commission or under UK law. 

Third party sites: our Website may have links to other websites that are not operated by us.  You should read the privacy notices on those other websites before you submit your information through them. 

Changes to this Notice:  from time to time we may revise this Notice.  Updated versions will be posted on the Website.  If we make any significant changes we will draw them to your attention. 

Children: our services are aimed at young people aged 16-25.  We do not knowingly process personal information from children under 16 years of age. If you are below the age of 16, you may only use our Website with the involvement of a parent or guardian. 

Consent: in order to process your information for certain purposes we require your consent.  You have the right to decline to provide your consent or withdraw your consent at any time.  You should note that we may not be able to provide you with Streetlife services without your consent.
