Over the last year, we have been creating our very own Streetlife podcast! This idea came about during one of our youth advisory meetings, where our young people share different ways they’d like to support the local community. We want to share more about our podcast success!
About the Podcast
Our podcast is called ‘Word on the Street’ and is hosted by our talented and creative young people at Streetlife with support from our energetic youth work team.
The podcast series is designed to explore the themes and issues that affect our vulnerable young people on a daily basis, from homelessness to mental health struggles and everything in between.
It aims to provide support for those aged between 16 and 25 who find themselves homeless in Blackpool. These are people that we regularly support through the Night Shelter and the Base.
The podcast features real-life stories on experiences, barriers and how the community has helped young people. It aims to empower and educate young people, showing them that there is a way out and that they can get the support they need.
Streetlife funding
We were pleased to receive funding from MLCGH, which allows us to provide therapeutic activities at the Night Shelter. As a result of this funding, we have been able to kit out our podcasting booth, which our young people have been in charge of.
Podcasting schedule
We record the Streetlife podcast fortnightly. This gives our young people the opportunity to have their say on a range of subjects, including the housing crisis and current affairs, such as the recent surge in ketamine use.
Why we created the podcast
One of our biggest values at Streetlife is empowering young people and giving them a voice on issues that affect them. That’s exactly what we achieve through this podcast series.
We also believe that enabling our young people to share their own stories and experiences can be very cathartic. The podcast allows our young people to become more confident, help others, and remain anonymous if they choose.
