Streetlife is proud to share our latest achievement. We were recently named winners at Blackpool in Bloom! We’d love to share more information with you about this incredible recognition.
What is Blackpool in Bloom?
Blackpool in Bloom, hosted by Enveco, is an annual event that brings communities together to participate in gardening projects. These gardening projects are often focused on improving community areas, including streets, gardens and other spaces.
This free-to-enter competition is open to everyone, including individuals, community groups and businesses located in Blackpool.
Not only does it give people a rewarding project to work on, but it also helps to improve the look and feel of our local area.
A team of impartial volunteers judges the awards based on a variety of factors, including the plants used, colours, use of recycled materials and water conservation.
How did Streetlife get involved?
Streetlife offers a safe place for vulnerable young people living in Blackpool, who often find themselves homeless. We provide the Base and the Night Shelter, both of which are places for young people to feel safe and develop skills. The Night Shelter is our emergency overnight facility and the base is our day centre where people can learn new skills, meet others and get dedicated support.
Every Friday morning at the Base, we run our Youth Advisory Group. This is an organised event where our young people come together and discuss the world and how they can make a positive difference.
In April, our young people decided that our backyard needed some work and they wanted to create a Zen Garden for relaxing. The space could also be used to facilitate meditation and yoga sessions.
Our young people began planning the outdoor space, working together as a team, which was amazing to see. The process quickly snowballed and became a huge community effort. As a result, we decided to enter Blackpool in Bloom.
Blackpool in Bloom support
Our young people became extremely passionate about the project and decided to get in touch with many local businesses, who kindly agreed to help. Our amazing volunteer team worked tirelessly enlisting the help of local contractors and everyone got involved in creating the new space.
We were lucky enough to receive donations from businesses such as Blackpool Tesco Extra and Burnside Garden Centre. We also had support from Fylde Coast Landscaping & Building Services, Singleton & Smart and Beaverbrooks. Our wonderful overseas volunteer, Helene, painted the beautiful mural on the wall!

The outcome of Blackpool in Bloom
As a result of the passion, planning, hard work and valued donations from local businesses, we only went and won best yard at Blackpool in Bloom 2025!
We are really pleased that our young people have been recognised for their hard work. Now, we have a beautiful space outside where visitors can relax, play games and simply chat. It means so much to us that our talented young people created this space.
The hard work doesn’t stop there. We now have an established gardening group at Streetlife who will continue to maintain the hard work they have put into the yard. We are growing our own tomatoes, strawberries, peppers and herbs, which will all be used in our cook and eat sessions to make lunches.
Additionally, our young people have now decided to tidy up our alleyway and have big plans to turn it into a welcoming community space.
We are so proud of our young people for their incredible work on this project and look forward to seeing what’s next.
