Streetlife young person promotes International Day of Peace

We’re so excited to share a story with you led by one of our fantastic young people from Streetlife!

What is the International Day of Peace?

International Day of Peace is a global awareness day celebrating the power of global solidarity. The aim of this awareness day is to promote a peaceful and sustainable world for all.

In recent years, this awareness day has felt even more important due to unprecedented challenges around the world.

It’s also important to recognise that to achieve international peace, we need everyone to work together. It cannot just be down to one country to make a change. We must all work together to achieve peace and a positive change in the world.

On the 21st of September 2024, we celebrated the 25th year of International Day of Peace.

On this day, everyone is encouraged to lay down weapons and make a positive change in humanity.

Blue’s support for International Day of Peace

Blue is an incredibly valued young person at Streetlife, and they played a huge role in the council’s work on International Day of Peace. Blue did work experience with the council’s youth team to drive this event forward, including meeting with peers and leaders to bring the actions to life. We are incredibly proud of their passion and drive to make a real impact in the community.

Thanks to Blue’s passionate and exciting ideas, a range of dedicated events and efforts were organised in Blackpool to celebrate this awareness day.

Local events inspired by Blue

These events were delivered by The Youth Provision Partnership, with support from various organisations and groups across the Fylde Coast.

The aim was to raise awareness of the day, focus on inner peace, and promote mindfulness across our Blackpool community. Many events took place to help with this, and here are just a few.

Mental well-being support

Many events were organised to provide practical support for managing mental health. Yoga, colouring in, and bounce and rhyme sessions about breathing by Blackpool Libraries are just a few of the events that were held.

Peace walk

The wonderful Prince’s Trust organised a dedicated Peace Walk. The group walked from South Shore to Blackpool Tower wearing International Peace Day T-shirts. These fantastic T-shirts featured branding developed by a team of talented local young people.

Dedicated peace space

An incredible ‘Peace Garden’ has been created in the Talbot and Brunswick (TAB) space. This is an area where people can reflect and enjoy nature all year round. Blackpool Park Rangers kindly donated some tree seeds, meaning the space will evolve for years to come. We’re so excited to see how this Peace Garden grows and helps the local community.

Blackpool Tower

In support of International Day of Peace, the Blackpool Tower was lit up in white to show solidarity. It’s great to have so many local businesses taking part in this extremely important day.

We are so proud of Blue for their wonderful ideas and participation in these events. You can read more about the events on the Blackpool Council website.
